New York police are searching for a couple who ambushed a 75-year-old man Wednesday afternoon in broad daylight, leaving him unconscious on the sidewalk.

Surveillance cameras caught the attack, in front of a Salvation Army store at 2:12 p.m., when a black man and woman were walking together at 120 W. 14^th Street in Manhattan. The man ran up to the elderly victim, punched him in the back of the head, then kicked him in the face after he fell to the ground, while his female partner stood by on the lookout.
The motive wasn’t robbery – nothing was stolen from the victim, who was taken to the hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

Police say the male suspect had black hair with a red streak in it. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, beige pants and a black and gray backpack. The female suspect was last seen wearing a green dress with a hood over her head and black sneakers.

Newly released information shows that Alton Sterling, the Baton Rouge man who was killed by police officers on July 5, had been arrested and imprisoned for a similar incident in 2009.

Police records obtained by WAFB News show that on May 29, 2009 police were called to a convenience store where Sterling was selling pirated CDs and had pulled a gun on someone.
While the officer was patting him down, Sterling reached into his pocket and spun around. As the two struggled, the gun fell out of his pocket. Backup was called, and Sterling continued struggling and fighting the officers even after they got him in handcuffs.
On July 19, 2011, he was sentenced to five years in prison, but was released early on December 5, 2013.
WAFB News stated they looked into his past – which includes a lengthy criminal record, because if the officer who shot him goes to trial, Sterling’s past will be considered.

DEVELOPING in FRANCE: A large truck drove into a crowd of people who had gathered for a Bastille Day fireworks show Thursday in the southern French city of Nice, killing at least 73 people and injuring 100 more in an apparent terror attack, officials said.
The official told France’s BFM TV that the driver of the truck was also dead. A witness, Wassim Bouhlel, told the Associated Press that he saw the truck drive into the crowd, then witnessed the driver emerge with a gun and start shooting.
“There was carnage on the road,” Bouhlel said. “Bodies everywhere.”
Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi asked residents to stay where they were immediately following the attack.
The apparent attack happened at around 10:30 p.m. on the Promenade des Anglais, a major boulevard along the Mediterranean Sea.
The Nice-Matin newspaper quoted one of its reporters as saying the truck driver “mounted onto the Prom and he drove on everyone.” The reporter added, “people are running, it’s panic.”

BANGKOK POST REPORTS: A woman was critically injured after jumping onto the tracks and being run over by a train at the Buri Ram station on Saturday.

Closed-circuit footage showed the woman jumping on the tracks in front of the approaching No. 21 Bangkok-Ubon Ratchathani express train at noon. The woman, in her 40s, lost both legs but remains alive. The video footage can be seen below:

They met at a local church – the police officer and the athlete – and a Facebook dispute over Black Lives Matter led to tragedy in St. Louis Saturday evening.

Tyler Gebhard, 20, was a former high school football star at Affton High School, where he graduated in 2014. After high school, he attended Southeast Missouri State University, where he was on the football roster, but never played in any games. His uncle said he struggled with bi-polar disorder, had a lot of mental problems, and wasn’t good about taking his medications for the disorder.
Authorities say Gebhard and the officer were not friends on Facebook, but both were involved in a church group on Facebook, where Gebhard had posted anti-law enforcement and anti-white threats.
Gebhard had shared numerous posts about police shootings of black men, as well as the five officers killed in Dallas. Some posts erupted into heated arguments and warnings of a race war. In one conversation Friday morning, he wrote, “Look man you better leave me alone or imma come looking for yoy.”
Saturday about 5:50 p.m., Gebhard went to the officer’s home and demanded to come inside. When the officer’s wife wouldn’t open the door, he picked up a 112 pound concrete planter off the porch, threw it through the back door, and charged into the house.
The wife ran into a back room to hide with her two children, a toddler and an infant, and her mother, while her husband went to face the intruder. The family was trying to escape through a bedroom window, and heard the officer yell to Gebhard, “get down, get down, get down!” and then they heard shots fired.
Gebhard was shot twice in the chest, and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Gebhard’s uncle, Patrick Brogan, said his nephew had a “lot of mental problems the last few months… a lot of difficulties in life.” He said the situation is even more painful, because several members of Gebhard’s family are in law enforcement as well.
St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said the officer was in a very difficult position, but “I don’t think the officer had a choice – I honestly don’t.”
St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that the officer is a three-year veteran of the department and is now on administrative leave.
